My passion has been assisting students as they grow to be independent deaf or hard of hearing adults, as well as helping teachers understand the unique language and cultural needs of students with hearing loss. In my role as a teacher of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH)/ Instructional Coach, I work with students to develop the skills they need to become independent deaf or hard of hearing adults. I also work with parents, school district staff, and LINCS staff in developing the skills to address the needs of these students. A graduate of the Deaf Education program at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, I hold WI Department of Public Instruction certifications 1805 (Hearing Impairment) and 1088 (Elementary Education, grades 1-6). I started my career as an itinerant D/HH teacher with CESA 14 (now CESA 3) in Fennimore. I then joined CESA 6, where for 33 years I served as an itinerant teacher, program support teacher, program coordinator, D/HH diagnostic teacher, and Coordinator of Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Blind/Visually Impaired Services. I’ve provided evaluation and direct instruction to students, consultation to staff and parents, and sensory-impairment support to 40 school districts in east-central Wisconsin. I retired in June, 2018, but still felt the spark for working with children and the desire to help encourage growth in the field of deaf education, leading me to LINCS. In my free time I take on the challenge of growing plants in a highly-shaded front yard, becoming very excited when something actually survives and returns the next Spring. My husband and I also enjoy waterfall trips around Wisconsin, visiting with our adult children, and tackling home improvement projects.
