I began my teaching career as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in 2018. It was a field I discovered during my last year of undergrad, and with a quick change in my educational path, I made the best decision possible. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater, and a Master’s degree in the area of Sensory Disabilities at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. I am so happy to be a part of the LINCS team and enjoy working with children and families in Southeastern Wisconsin.
Wisconsin has been my home for the past five years, and I am excited to begin the next chapter of my life with my husband. In my free time, I enjoy bouldering at our local rock climbing gym and teaching tap, ballet, and modern through the Parks & Recreation department.
I am an advocate-at-heart who strives to help children with
visual impairments reach a level of independence
that they can feel confident and happy about.
I find it very important to create trusting connections
with my students and families, because
teamwork makes a difference!
I graduated from UW-Milwaukee in 2012 with a degree in Special Education. I have 10 years of experience as a special educator. An emergency license from the state makes it possible for me to join LINCS and pursue Teacher of Visually Impaired licensure while being able to put my experience to work in the field and be an itinerant.
Outside of school, I love spending time with my husband. We enjoy traveling and creating lasting memories - mostly beaches, but we love the mountains too. Adventure is our theme in life. My own adult children are my absolute pride and joy. They are a huge source of my happiness! There is a lot of fun and laughter when we are all together!
I am very excited to be a part of LINCS as an extension of our wonderful Low Incidence Teachers as an Assistant in the Racine Unified School District. My background in working with children started in Girl Scouts. In high school, I had the opportunity to take part in the Positive Impact Program going into classes and doing lessons with younger children. From there, I was an assistant in Sunday School classes at my Church until I eventually took over my own Class. I have also had lots of experience working with children on the local Santa and Easter Bunny Sets, doing volunteer work as Scruff McGruff, photography (in schools, churches, and families), as well as in a Retail Play Area where I worked to improve our safety and evacuation procedures. In addition, I have been teaching music lessons on a private basis as well as having prior experience teaching music for a weekend music program in MPS. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this team and to help support all of our amazing students!
In my free time, I enjoy reading, learning new things, photography, crafting, and cuddling or playing with my two cats. Music is a very important part of my life and has been since I was young. My primary instrument is the harp, but I also play the piano, string bass, handbells, and handchimes. I also enjoy getting out to experience this beautiful state with my husband.
My name is Abi Beck, and I'm thrilled to be a part of the LINCS team as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) serving the Milwaukee area. With a strong foundation in education and a deep passion for fostering learning, I'm dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives of students.
My journey in education began at the University of Iowa, where I earned my degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish. Outside of teaching, I enjoy time spent with my family and my dogs. Other hobbies of mine include baking, cooking and doing just about anything outdoors.
I'm genuinely excited to contribute to the LINCS team and the Milwaukee community!
Helping others is my mantra in life, so starting a teaching career was an easy choice for me. I graduated from Alverno College in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in education, and began my teaching journey. After being a middle school literacy teacher for 8 years, and receiving my master’s degree, I moved into a coaching role at the high school level, working alongside teams of teachers to research and implement best educational practices into their classrooms. A few years later, I completed my certification for working in alternative education, and helped implement a competency-based individualized program for at-risk youth. At this point in my teaching journey, I am excited to be a part of the LINCS team, using my professional knowledge and experiences to foster a positive learning environment for students who are visually impaired. I look forward to serving students and families in Southeastern Wisconsin.
I am a busy wife and mom of 3 kiddos. We enjoy spending our time on the lake, cheering on our kids at sporting events, and traveling to Arizona. When my kids are grown, my goal is to have more hobbies of my own.
